partners
Peninsula Bridge consistently looks for creative ways to involve local organizations in our programming. Leading Bay Area organizations have chosen to support our students in a variety of ways. Read more about these partnerships, and see how you can get involved, below.
Campus Partners
Peninsula Bridge’s out-of-school programs take place on the campuses of seven leading Bay Area independent schools including: Castilleja, Crystal Springs Uplands, Eastside College Preparatory School, Menlo School, The Nueva School, Sacred Heart Schools, St. Matthews Episcopal Day School, and Woodside Priory. The schools provide faculty and facilities for our summer and year round programs, and their heads of school serve on our Board of Directors. The generous in-kind support of these school partners is critical to Peninsula Bridge's model and success.
Middle Schools
Peninsula Bridge partners with over 50 public and independent middle schools from San Mateo to Mountain View to recruit and support high-achieving students for our program. Teachers and principals identify motivated students who are eligible for "Free or Reduced Lunch" to participate in our 12-year program. Most Peninsula Bridge students remain at their home schools and use the knowledge and skills they gain at Peninsula Bridge to contribute and become change agents at their schools and communities. Partner Highlights
Listen for Good
Peninsula Bridge was awarded an exciting grant from Fund for Shared Insight, and participated in the Listen for Good (L4G) initiative, advancing feedback loops in the social sector as a member of the 2017 summer cohort.
Listen for Good (L4G) is an initiative dedicated to building the practice of listening to the people we seek to help. L4G is focused on applying a semi-standard survey instrument, which includes using the Net Promoter System (NPS®) employed widely in customer feedback circles. Organizations implementing L4G are all customer-facing nonprofits. Since 2016, L4G has made grants to 158 organizations, supported by 69 nominating co-funders.
Arcus Biosciences
We want to thank Arcus Biosciences for providing internships for ten Peninsula Bridge high school and college students this summer. Our Peninsula Bridge students will gain invaluable exposure to the biotech industry. Arcus is a leader in biotechnology innovation discovering new cancer therapeutics. Our students will learn about innovative cancer immunotherapies, medicinal chemistry, immunology, drug development, finance, and business development. This is a unique career exposure opportunity for our students to learn the ins and outs of the biotech industry in the Bay Area, home to the largest concentration of biotech companies in the world.
Dr. Juan Jaen, co-founder and President of Arcus Biosciences, explains:
“At Arcus, we feel very strongly that the future success of companies in any highly competitive field of science or technology, such as the life sciences, requires that we identify and nurture inquisitive talent no matter where it might be found. Creativity and hard work are found in equal measure across all segments of our population. It is our privilege to be able to partner with Peninsula Bridge to foster such qualities in some of their brightest students.”
